Hello Catch Up with Project Life!

Hello my fellow Project-Lifers! I am so beyond thrilled to be sharing my latest collaborative class at Big Picture Classes called Catch Up with Project Life!

It is a 3 week online class taught by me, Megan Anderson and Trisha Harrison. It starts October 30th but registration is open now so you can get started on the first three challenges. Cost is only $30 for some amazing content, prizes and a lot more!

It is all about MAKING PROGRESS and HAVING FUN with filling in gaps or "catching up" with our Project Life.

It is about joining together as a community to inspire and uplift one another.

It is about letting go of guilt and getting more done.

It is about welcoming beginners and helping seasoned Project Lifers find their groove.

Are you excited yet?

Below are some peeks at some of the layouts I have created for this class. I just counted the pages I have created and I am blown away. For this chronically behind, gap-laden Project Lifer, I have created or filled in pretty big gaps for over 40 pages and caught up on over three months of Project Life, all while staying somewhat current. It's seriously cool. I am more motivated than ever to keep going back and start filling in the smaller gaps.

And yet…I have never technically "finished" a Project Life album.

Why would I share that with you when I am supposed to be "an expert?" (who knows what that really means anyways.) But seriously, I share that because I am just like you. I am a busy working mom. I love taking photos and memory keeping. I dabble in the online scrapbooking world. I love to start projects. I really do. I just have a hard time finishing them!

I share that because when my family looks at my albums, they focus on all that I have created. The memories and moments that are captured. Not that my use of visual triangles or rounded versus squared corners. They are just happy to see photos and read stories. And yes, I'm happy my daughter loves  stickers and embellishments too. But that's beside the point.

The point is: memory keeping with Project Life is awesome! But like with any attempt at chronological documentation, it is very easy to "fall behind" and have gaps in our albums.

What is the class NOT about?

This class is not about seeing who has the most gaps.

This is not about seeing who is the best at keeping up.

This class is not about saying you have to do it our way.

This class is not a race or a competition to see who can create the most layouts.

It is about learning techniques and principles to help you fill in gaps and possibly keep current while doing so.

The main idea is that we have created 12 challenges, each with lots of instruction including video presentations, video tutorials, pdf handouts and bonus worksheets. These 12 challenges are designed around some of the main "reasons why" people fall behind or have gaps. And the fun thing: we have a prize for each challenge! So even more motivation to complete the challenges!

We also have bonus collaborative handouts tackling some other areas where people may struggle: title pages, memorabilia and how to handle those "extra projects" like Week in the Life™ or December Daily™.

As if that isn't enough, there will be emails throughout the week to help keep you motivated and inspired, including some printables.

There will be a gallery and message boards + live video chats with the instructors.

Yes, it's a lot! But wait, there's more! (insert infomercial voice here!)

Are you a beginner? We have you covered! We have tips for beginners as well as those who have been working on Project Life for a while.

Are you current in your Project Life? We have tips and motivation for you as well with photo and journaling prompts to help inspire even more life documentation for the three weeks of class. Plus, you will be learning principles to help you as you move forward.

And finally, we are going to be finishing the class with a big Catch Up with Project Life Party! A full 12 hours for us to play together with additional inspiration from us as well as some very special guests to help you really bust out and finish your pages for the challenges.

Needless to say, this class has been a labor of love. We really wanted to create something that would be fun + inspirational + focus on getting more done. We are not perfect. This class is likely not perfect. But I think it's pretty darn good and I really hope you will join us.

So here are a few of my sneaks and you can click here to find out more about the class and sign up. (I have a coupon code below as well.)

Big Hint: if you sign up now, you can get started on our first 3 challenges in pre class. That's right! It's like getting an extra week of class and it will give you time to figure out what you want to work on and get ready for the rest of the class.

*****************************************************

First up: one big tip. If you are going to be working on pages from various years, I highly recommend grabbing an extra album if you have one available. It really helped me keep focused just on the layouts I wanted to work on and it was super motivating to see this album fill up. The album I used is this one: this really fun black and white striped album from the  Heidi Swapp Project Life edition. You can find that here or at your local Michael's store.

Seriously, this album is almost full now!

Have big gaps? I had two big gaps in my 2013 album. Seriously, this was what my October and November 2013 looked like when I started.

And here are some sneaks of the finished pages.

And yes, those are sneak peeks of pages created using the newly released Project Life® App!! Check out more information about that from Becky Higgins here.

Do you have smaller areas to fill in? We have ideas for that too.

I fell behind with my attempt to do a photo a day for December Daily™ in December of 2012. I was able to complete the month following the principles in class and I have ideas on how to finish that year's December Daily™ too!

Are you excited yet? Okay, so what are you waiting for!! Just go here and check out more about the class and get registered! We are so excited to help you get started catching up.

So just say "YES!" to both donuts for dinner and having more fun playing catch up with your Project Life! We are so thrilled to have you join us!!

And for your reward for making it through this post: You can use the coupon code: teacherspet for $5 off the price of $30. (note that the code is good through September and cannot be combined with other offers like student rewards.)

Mobile Monday Kickoff | Phone Photography Project 2 Giveaway!

Hello again! And welcome to a new blog feature, something that has been in my heart and mind for a long time now. Finally breaking through the ______________ (insert any excuse) and just doing it. Why not, right?

If you have followed me for a while, you may know that I use my smart phone for a lot of my memory keeping. I definitely don't consider myself an expert, but I know that it has helped me capture way more memories and to create pages and layouts for those memories that I know I would normally have been able to do. Now here's the thing. I would love to learn more and share more. I just think it is amazingly exciting to be living at a time when we have this technology at our fingertips!

So I'm launching a new blog series called Mobile Memory Keeping. My goal is to post on Mondays, hence the "Mobile Mondays" title.

Really? Me? Keep up with anything blog related? Well, we'll just have to see how it goes. But I really do want to do this. I have for a long time and those thoughts are what has kept me from doing it.

So why not? Let's do this thing! (you've got to start somewhere, right?)

So my first post is a fun photo collage I created from the apps Collect  and PicFrame and finally the app Over for the word art. I hope to have a video tutorial up for you next week. (Collect and Over are only on iPhone; PicFrame is for both iPhone and Android.)

I call this the super mega collage. I have been wanting to create something like this for a long time. I have used Picasa in the past on my desktop and loved how it turned out. But I have yet to do it on my phone. I saw Rhonna Farrer's example on Instagram and knew I wanted to do something with the photos I had been collecting of my husband and my daughter for Father's Day.

So I simply exported the photos I had been collecting under the tag "Sam and Maggie relationship" in my Collect App. I've been using it since January 2013 and have used tags to some extent. I had already started a tag for this, but maybe only 15-20 were tagged. My original idea was to create a photo book with the photos (and I still might do that). So back in early June I started going back and adding tags to the photos that had both of them in it; especially ones that showed their relationship. Then I exported them and added them to the collage in PicFrame.

The PicFrame trick is really fun. You create 9 of the 9-photo grids, then add those back to a 9 photo template. Hello, brilliant! (thank you Rhonna for your brilliance! And by the way, if you haven't already, check out her amazing app here.)

Here are three of the regular 9 photo collages created in PicFrame. I just adore how I was able to find pictures from her birth to now to create a time capsule of photos so to speak. I just love that and as I look through all of the photos, my mind is flooded with memories and emotions. I remember laughing or noticing something special and grabbing my phone. I love this kind of collage.

Then I added the word art in the app Over. I did have to purchase the pack ($1.99). But I just adore the script and thought it was so beautiful.

So there it is! My first post! I hope to figure out a link up feature so you can share what mobile memory keeping you are working on. For now, just use the hashtags #mobilememorykeeping and/or #mobilemondays so we can share and learn from each other!

And as a reward for making it through this post, I am beyond thrilled to announce I have a giveaway!! Yes, the amazing class, the Phone Photography Project at Big Picture Classes is back for round 2! And it is all new!! I took it last year, and you can get version one as a self paced class now to start working on. Then the second round starts July 17th. It is really awesome to not only learn a ton, but to see the sharing on Instagram for this class. It's really cool.

Giveaways! Project Life Lessons and Tracy Larsen Week and Month in Review Templates!

Project Life Lessons is returning this week! Just wanted to share my last seat to give away with my very patient and wonderful blog readers. Thank you for hanging in there with me. I know I'm not the most regular, but I do hope that I share content that you find inspiring.

Would love to have you join us in our workshop at Big Picture Classes! This is the second time around, so not much new content if you have joined us before (there is an alumni code if you are interested in taking it again with a big discount.) Primarily the same content, with additional 2014 updates to our process and videos about our process this year.

I've also been able to persuade the very talented Tracy Larsen to share with us her Week in Review template that I'm using this year, and I made a process video about using that template in Photoshop Elements. I geared it towards those who are new to digital, and I hope in our next version of the class there will be more digital content. Be sure to thank Tracy and there will be a discount code in the class for her other templates. (note that in the class is just the one template design that I'm using in both 3x4 and 4x6 and will be in the week 2 content.)

And…I have a full set of her newest version to give away!!! Exciting, right?! I know, I adore her templates and one lucky winner will get a set of the month and week in review templates (both 4x6 and 3x4 version!) How cool is that?! I adore these and am so excited to be able to share them with you!

And I also want to give a nice thank you to the two inspiring women I get to work with for the class. Both are simply amazing. Wondeful Project Lifers. Wonderful people. So thrilled to be teaching with them.

Project Life Update | January Part 1

Hello again!

If you've stayed with me this long, I thank you! If you are just joining me, hello to you as well! Happy you are here and happy to be sharing my Project Life pages for January. Specifically, my January introduction page and weeks 1 and 2.

Yes, I realize this is March! Life's been busy and my mantra with this blog and Project Life or any memory keeping projects is simple…live life first. So, while I may get pages completed (and let's face it--that's a huge accomplishment for me); I don't always get them photographed and blogged. But I digress.

So, here we go. First up is my January introduction page. I basically do these because 1. I love them. 2. I love the calendars and the monthly review. 3. It helps give context and organization to my album. 4. The right hand side gives me a place for a longer story/personality page/fave photos roundup, as found in our eBook, Project Dig Deep. And finally, the biggest reason is number 5. Because when I get behind with the "weekly" approach, I can always just forget the week in review and do them by month. My back-up plan so to speak. Anyways, I love it.

Title page is a free download from Persnickety Prints found here. January month in review card and weekly review cards are from Tracy Larsen, found here. (I think she is working on a 4x6 version--I just tweaked mine to 4x6 in Photoshop Elements.) Quote card is from the teen theme pack, I think, from Becky Higgins Project Life® found here. Calendar from Paislee Press found here.

And on to week 1. Here is where I use the majority of the Collect Photo App cards. For more information and a tutorial, see my prior post here.

I have a title card, a quote from my daughter and a week in review card each week. I love having a design plan, a place for these cards to go. It takes the decision making and agonizing over what goes in what pocket so much simpler. Yes, if you do Project Life as originally designed, this is done for you. But even then, there were too many decisions for me. I've gotten faster, but I cannot tell you how much I love having some pages pre-planned. Because I'm ordering out my photos and it can take a month before I get enough to send out, I really like having a plan for where these go.

Here is the main "spread" for week 1. (spread meaning left side + right side). This was January 1-5. Welcoming the new year, enjoying New Year's Day and the weekend together. Pretty much a magical start to the year.

I decided to add a "Maggie Quote" each week instead of a different quote card. She's saying so many funny things now, I just want a way to remember some of them. I'm using a Paislee Press card that I tweaked to make it work. Find that here.

And on to week 2: January 6-12. Decided to clean up my bedroom/scraproom. It's a bit overwhelming and only somewhat better, but at least it helped get me going for the year. I changed up some of my table for a cleaner look. Goodbye avocado green, hello mint green thanks to cute boxes from Ikea.

And I had to include a little extra bit about Torchy's Tacos. Seriously yummy and "damn good" as they call them. Maggie loves that "baby Jack Jack wears a diaper." (she's a bit of an Incredibles fan)

As for products, I'm using a kit I pulled together from my physical and digital stash. Lots of Paislee Press papers I made into title cards, cards from Midnight and Seafoam, cards from Dear Lizzy kits. Basically neutrals with pops of mint and pinks/corals. I'm calling it the Mint kit. Totally nothing official, just having fun with it and my goal is to use my stash more this year. I'm also still subscribing to the Studio Calico Project Life kit. That cute "Love This" card is from their January kit, Copper Mountain.

If you have any questions for me, just ask below. Am happy to help!

Also, I am thrilled that Big Picture Classes is running our class Project Life Lessons again! I teach it along with Megan Anderson and Elise Blaha Cripe. Both of these ladies are completely amazing and I'm honored to be teaching with them.

About the class: it's three weeks long and we each share our processes, tips and tricks, along with ideas for improving your Project Life® processes in each of these main categories: photos, journaling and creating Project Life® layouts. It's fun, we have videos and downloads for each week (handouts for content + free cards you can use in your album.) There is also a Pre-Class, which is available immediately upon purchase of the class. It's packed. Seriously packed. I've taken lots of classes so I know! :)

The awesome thing is that there is an early bird discount available until March 12th. (price will go up from the discounted $30 rate to the regular $45 rate the morning of March 13th.) So really, grab it before then!! You could buy a mini kit with the savings! :)

Class begins April 17th and I hope to see you there!
