Project Life 2012: The Journey Begins

Jumped on the bandwagon. Giving Project Life another go round and hoping it will work this year. I will have to post what my 2011 looks like. Pretty much a memorabilia album at this point, but I did just order some pics from Postal Pix and have decided make it a monthly highlights album.

Like many, I take a lot of photos. Probably at least a photo a day. Usually quite a bit more. I tried Project 365 back in 2009. Kept up for about three weeks with digital layouts. Ended up going with a random year of tags, which was quite fun. I had my baby girl in 2010 and had a hard time documenting much. I may go back and use Project Life for her first year. We will see. Enter 2011: I thought I could do it weekly, like a lot of people are doing. Got it set up and added lots of memorabilia, but the pictures just haven't found their way from my hard drive to the project yet!

Actually I did use the page protectors (about 5 spreads) to document our vacation this year. I ended up just adding that to my Places We Go album in my Library of Memories. I also loved using the "spreads" to scrap some older photos that I haven't scanned yet. No glue involved, so I can always scan them later when I get the time.

So 2012 is here and I am seeing all the wonderful pages floating around on Twitter and Instagram and blogs. There is so much inspiration and excitement; I just love that community aspect of it. The awesome thing about Project Life is that it can be whatever you want it to be. Here is my plan:

  • Do what inspires me
  • Capture everyday moments
  • Add memorabilia, the "stuff" of life
  • Capture big moments
  • 12 on the 12th: I am going to take 12 photos on the 12th of every month (or round about that day--I am very loose with the "rules"). This will probably take up one spread and be a great way to capture life. Check out Ella Publishing's Take Twelve Project to find out more and join in the fun.
  • Keep it in reach. Got a little container to house my Clementine kit and have started a 12x12 plastic envelope sleeve (from Michael's or Hobby Lobby). Keeping the supplies I use most frequently close at hand really helps.
  • I may try playing with themes like "Day in the Life" or "week in the life" or "everyday you" for some of the spreads.
  • Can also do monthly overviews and highlights like I am planning for 2011. I signed up for Katie Nelson's Roundup class at BPC to help with rounding up the monthly highlights.
  • Mixing up the page protectors. Am excited about playing around with different sizes and layouts.
  • Overall will be "Here and There" glimpses of life. No stressing that it has to be done in a certain way or time. Just capture life when I can and have a place for some of these photos!
  • I may more may not post on the blog. If I have time I will, but will probably be taking Instagrams of them and posting on Twitter at the least.
  • Mostly I want to have fun with it and be able to share it with my family. No stress, just do what works.

So here we go! I finished my title page this weekend and am thrilled at how it came out. Fun fun stuff.

Project Life by Becky Higgins is a set of cool divided page protectors, kits and more to help capture our photos and stories in an easy to use format. It can be whatever you want it to be. Check out her site to learn more. I also recommend checking out the Design Team. They totally rock. And also there is a free Project Life Community at Big Picture Classes.

Hello 2012

A new year, a fresh start. Love that. Just wanted to say Hello 2012!

My One Little Word for the year is Awake.

Awake my soul. Awake and alive. Awake.

I want to become the woman I have always wanted to be. I know I need to make some changes.

One thing at a time. One step at a time.

My goal is to embrace change with a positive perspective and lots of self kindness.

Balance will be a key. Being well rested will make a difference.

Breathe. Inhale. Exhale.

Here we go.

Ramblings

Nothing really cool to post right now except that December is zooming by. I am still on Day 1 of actually creating my December Daily album, and as Ali herself would say... "that is OK"!! So no berating myself, I have been working on it when I can. I have a feeling most of it will be iPhone photos with Instagrams and also a new app I found from a twitter feed-Diptic. Liking that I can play with more than 1 photo at a time and make a collage. I am hoping to get my photos and stories in order so I can work on them one day after Christmas. Like many others, with work and everything else, daily capturing + creating + uploading and sharing is just not an option for me. Truthfully I started to feel sad about it at first, like I was missing out on some big online sharing event, and you know what? There's just no point in that. I create for myself and for my family. And while it is really fun to share online and connect with others, I just have to say "Enough" and be happy with what I have captured and created for me and my family. I love what Stacy Julian calls it, the "Enough Quotient." So thank you to all who are able to create and share online. I admire all that you do and I am defnitiely inspired by your work. And to all those who create and don't share, know that there are probably lots of us in this boat, so keep on creating! And to those who think about creating I say awesome! I'm right there with ya! I really love this hobby and am thankful for realizing what I do and who I am is "Enough"

Now, back to playing on Instagram!

Move More Eat Well 2012

Okay, so I am working on December Daily. I've been taking a few photos each day and also jotting some ideas for each day on a sticky note and just putting that in my book for now.

Then today I remembered there was a One Little Word chat with Ali and luckily I was home! So I logged in and was totally inspired to get back on track and commit to a few things.

First, I have been thinking and thinking and thinking about taking Cathy Z's class Move More, Eat Well. This is an area I obviously need to improve. Is this the year? I vote yes! So I'm in. Now just need to go shopping for some new shoes!

Second, this year was very helpful with my One Little Word, Focus. I definitely needed it and have made some great changes because of it. I had put off registering for 2012 but no longer! I am in and actively pondering my 2012 word. I have a few front runners. I will probably choose one main word and maybe have a little "secret" word that is there in the background. That's kind of what I did this year. But I must say the main word had the most impact.

Happy that I am thinking about these now. I have a feeling December is going to fly! Now back to that other project!
